Pope Francis is hoping to change the world through sports.

The pontiff is planning a three-day conference at the Vatican in the fall titled, “Sports at the Service of Humanity,” according to a report.

Two North American sports marketing companies — Canada-based Lang Marketing and the Aspire Group of Atlanta — will help sell the invitation-only event, scheduled for Oct. 5-7.

The confab, the third global initiative on education for Pope Francis, will examine the role sports can play in society — from establishing relationships to helping promote health and wellness, according to Sports Business Journal, which first reported on the event.

Bernie Mullen, CEO of Aspire Group, is close to signing the first sponsor, he told SBJ.

The Pope’s first two global initiatives focused on income disparity and climate change.
